When Darkness Tries to Steal Your Peace

Standing Firm in Faith When Evil Presses In

Anchor of the Week

"The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you." – Romans 16:20 (NIV)

This Week’s Message

We all want to believe that people are inherently good, right? That somewhere deep down, everyone is led by light. But the truth is, some have opened themselves up to darkness. Some have intentionally and some perhaps unknowingly. The war between good and evil isn’t just something written in Scripture; it’s playing out all around us, every- single-day.

This week has been one of the hardest I’ve ever faced. It was filled with heartbreak, devastation, and a heaviness I could hardly bear. It felt like darkness wanted to consume everything my family and I have worked so hard to protect. Things were going so well, and then suddenly, it felt like everything shattered.

But that’s what darkness does. It waits until your faith is growing, until peace fills your home, until joy starts to bloom, and then it schemes and attempts to snuff it out. If we are too weak we fall prey to these attempts and allow the darkness to overcome us. Its goal is simple: to pull us away from God, to make us question His goodness, and to leave us standing in the ashes of doubt.

I’ve honestly been through way too much in life to let any situation or circumstance shake my faith. God has shown up for me every single time something has gone wrong. He’s carried me through storms that should’ve utterly broken me. And though it doesn’t make the pain any easier right now, I know He’s working in ways I can’t yet see to get me through this one, too.

It’s okay to ask why. It’s okay to not understand. Some answers come with time; others unfold quietly in ways we never expect. Life is a series of waves. Sometimes they’re calm, sometimes crashing. But just like the ocean, those waves are still under God’s control. Darkness may roar, but it will never rule.

This week’s new meditation, “I Surrender to You Lord,” was born from that place. Because sometimes, the only thing we can do is hand it all over to Him. When peace feels stolen, surrender is how we reclaim it.

Reflections: God’s Power in the Presence of Darkness

Psalm 18:28 (NIV)
“You, Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.”
This verse is a promise that no matter how dark things feel, God’s light will not be extinguished. When the enemy tries to suffocate your peace, God breathes new flame into your spirit. He turns even the darkest moments into testimony, reminding us that His presence outshines every shadow.

Exodus 14:14 (NIV)
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Sometimes the hardest battles are fought in silence. We want to retaliate, to fix things ourselves, but God calls us to stillness. This verse is a reminder that peace is not passive, it’s extremely powerful. When we let God fight for us, we invite His protection to surround us like a shield.

Romans 12:21 (NIV)
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Evil feeds on reaction—it wants chaos, anger, and fear. But when we respond with goodness, grace, and steadfast faith, we disarm it completely. This verse reminds us that walking in love isn’t weakness; it’s our greatest spiritual weapon.

Bible Story: Mary Magdalene – Delivered from Darkness (Luke 8:2; Mark 16:9)

Mary Magdalene’s life is a powerful testament to God’s ability to restore peace in the presence of evil. Scripture tells us that before meeting Jesus, Mary was tormented by seven demons. The number seven signifies completeness, meaning Mary’s suffering was total. Imagine the turmoil, the constant battle in her mind, the loss of control, the torment that stole her peace. Darkness had claimed her.

But then she met Jesus. And with one word, the power of evil broke. He set her free—not just from demonic influence, but from the fear, shame, and isolation that came with it.

From that day on, Mary never turned back. She followed Jesus closely, supported His ministry, and became one of the first witnesses of His resurrection. The same woman once bound by darkness became one of the first to proclaim the light.

Mary’s story reminds us that the enemy’s grip never outweighs God’s grace. Evil may try to invade, but Christ’s presence expels it completely. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. Her life proves that no matter how deep the darkness, God’s light always prevails.

How to Protect Your Peace When Darkness Tries to Drown It Out

Peace is one of the enemy’s favorite things to attack because when our hearts are unsettled, our faith begins to waver. But God never leaves us defenseless. Here are a few ways we can stay anchored in His peace when darkness presses in:

1. Guard Your Spirit with Prayer
Start and end your day in conversation with God. Prayer is not just communication; it’s protection. When we invite Him into every moment, His presence becomes a shield around our hearts and minds.

2. Saturate Your Mind with Scripture
Darkness thrives in confusion and fear. God’s Word cuts through both. Read verses about His promises, His love, and His authority over evil. Speak them out loud when troubles arise; truth always silences lies.

3. Watch What You Allow In
Be mindful of what you consume. This means conversations, entertainment, and environments that stir negativity. Peace is fragile; protect it by surrounding yourself with what is pure, true, and uplifting.

4. Surrender What You Can’t Control
The enemy feeds on confusion and chaos. But peace comes when we hand our battles to God. When you feel overwhelmed, whisper, “Lord, I surrender this to You.” He is fighting for you even when you cannot see it. Our meditation this week can help you do this.

5. Stay Close to the Light
When you draw near to God, darkness begins to lose its hold. Worship, gratitude, and a community rooted in faith keep His light burning bright within you. The closer you walk with Him, the more you dwell in His peace, His power, and His protection.

In Closing

Our peace is a precious commodity, and we must be aware that it is constantly under threat. But we can find solace in the fact that God is our protector, our defender, and the keeper of our peace. Darkness may strike, but it cannot stay where God’s light dwells.

When life feels heavy, surrender it. Hand every fear, every “why,” every heartbreak over to the One who never fails. Evil may whisper that you’re losing, but faith declares you’re already victorious through Christ.

Let’s pray:

Heavenly Father, thank You for being our shield and our peace. When darkness presses in, remind us that Your light still burns bright within us. Guard our hearts, protect our minds, and keep our faith steady and strong when the world feels uncertain. Teach us to surrender everything to You and to trust that You are fighting battles we can’t see. May Your peace surround us today and always. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thank you so much for being here, see you next Sunday ❤️🙏🏻God Bless You~Amber
