"See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!" – 1 John 3:1 (NIV)

We Belong to Him

I was thinking this week about worth. The kind of worth that sinks deep into our souls and answers the question, Am I valuable? The truth is staggering: we are worth the life of God’s Son. That’s not some vague theological idea; it’s deeply and intensely personal. When Jesus died on the cross, He wasn’t dying for a nameless crowd; He was dying for you, His beloved child.

It’s almost impossible for us to wrap our minds around that kind of love. We measure worth by productivity, talent, or appearance here on Earth. But God measures it by adoption. He says, “You are mine.” If we could begin to see ourselves through His eyes, we’d realize our value. You’re not a nobody. You’re not replaceable. You are a child of the Most High, and that identity carries more weight than anything else.

This week’s meditation, I Am a Child of God, is very close to my heart. It literally brought me to tears recording it. It’s designed to quiet the noise of doubt and let you rest in the peace of knowing that your worth is eternal, because it comes from the One who calls you His own. It is my prayer that you can carve out 15 minutes to sit with this one and truly rest in the love God has for you.

Reflection on These Scriptures

Romans 8:16 takes us deeper. God’s Spirit testifies with our spirit that this is true. It’s not a nice idea —it’s a divine assurance that we belong.

1 John 3:1 God doesn’t give His love in small measures; He lavishes it. Being called His child is not a title we earn but a gift we receive. This verse is our reminder that His love defines us more than anything else ever could.

Galatians 3:26 gives the promise plainly: God declares He will be our Father, and we will be His sons and daughters. It’s covenant language, binding and eternal. When we doubt our worth, these verses remind us that being God’s child is not a temporary role but a permanent identity.

Bible Story: The Prodigal Son and the Cross

When Jesus told the story of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15, He gave us a window into the Father’s heart. A son squanders everything—his inheritance, his reputation, and his dignity. Hungry and ashamed, he stumbles back home, rehearsing a speech to earn his way back as a servant. But before he can get a word out, his father runs to him. Not only does he forgive him, but he restores him with a robe, a ring, and a feast. The son had lost his way, but never his place in the family.

That parable is about us. We’re the ones who wander, who forget our worth, who let shame and guilt try to rewrite our story. And God is the Father who runs—who doesn’t just let us back in but restores us completely.

But Jesus didn’t stop with a parable. He showed us the full picture at the cross. While the Prodigal Son received grace through a father’s embrace, we receive grace through the Son’s sacrifice. Our worth is written in blood. The cross tells us, louder than any lie or failure, that we are children of God and nothing can snatch that identity away.

Prayer for the Week

Father, thank You for calling me Your child. Remind me when I doubt, when I compare, when I feel unworthy, that my worth was settled at the cross. Let me live each day confident in Your love, secure in my identity, and ready to share that truth with others. Amen.

In Closing

This world will tell you that you’re only as valuable as your achievements, your image, or your following. Don’t buy it. Your worth isn’t vain like most of these things, and it isn’t for sale. You are a child of God, beloved, chosen, and redeemed. That’s the truest thing about you, and it will never change.

Have a blessed week ahead. I’ll see you here next Sunday ~❤️🙏 Amber
